Bruneck was founded in the 13th century by Prince-Bishop Bruno of Brixen – and still bears his name.
The heart of the town is the Stadtgasse: an unbroken row of town houses with oriel windows, arcades and shops, running between the castle hill and the Rienz river.
At its end stands the Ursuline Gate with its clock and coat of arms. Above the old town sits the castle, which the founder had built as the bishop’s residence.
An hour is enough for a first stroll. If you want to know more, the events calendar lists regular guided town walks in German and Italian.
